Ellesmere Port and Bromborough MP Justin Madders recently visited the brand-new Great Sutton Medical Centre, due to open later this year.
On Old Chester Road in Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port – opposite the current practice – the new facility will ensure a seamless transition for patients as one site opens and the other closes.
The move comes as the current medical centre is no longer fit for purpose, given limited space, and amenities unable to meet the needs of a growing community.
As the centrepiece of the £16 million Great Sutton Health and Wellbeing Village, the new medical centre will provide:
- Onsite pharmacy
- Complementary therapies
- Activity programme and gym
- Community space with discreet self-check area, including weighing scales and blood pressure monitoring
- Coffee area for patients and visitors
- Minor treatment suite and consultants’ rooms for visiting specialists
- Shared car parking
The wider health and wellbeing village brings health, activity, and community facilities together. The scheme has already delivered a new village hall, new Scout HQ, resurfaced sports pitches with new changing rooms, and a relocated and upgraded children’s play area. There is improved access to nearby allotments, with plans for a linked healthy eating programme.
Formed by several doctors from the Great Sutton Medical Practice, Great Sutton Ltd funded not only the new medical centre but also the construction of the village hall and Scout hut. The practice partners remain landlords for the entire site.
Mr Madders said:
“The new medical centre is about more than bigger, modern facilities. It reflects a whole-person, whole-community approach to health, exactly the kind of model the Government’s 10-Year NHS Plan promotes – shifting care from hospitals into community settings, improving access to services, and bringing health and wellbeing support together under one roof.
“By combining excellent clinical care with opportunities to stay active, eat well, and connect with others, the wider health and wellbeing village will help people live healthier, happier lives and become a thriving hub in the community.”
Meanwhile, plans have been approved for the existing medical centre site, which will be demolished and redeveloped to make way for a new Lidl supermarket.
