Have your say on the next stage of Ellesmere Port regeneration

The Masterplan for Ellesmere Port is being refreshed and updated to consider the next priorities for the town.

The updated Masterplan will consider the changed retail, economic, and social landscape. It will identify key challenges and future opportunities whilst providing an assessment of the town centre’s current condition with relevant comparable places.

Previous plans highlighted key sites across the town centre where potential development could take place including The Knot hotel, the Wellington Road car park, open space adjacent to Cambridge Road primary school, the market, Rivington Road, the civic offices and Coronation Road.

Fast forward to 2026 and much of this work has been completed or is in progress; completion of The Portal, new Bus Exchange, demolition of Civic Way offices and sites on Cromwell Road for housing, Ellesmere Port Market & Flea Market upgrade, former Knot Hotel site redeveloped.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation, said:

“Cheshire West & Chester Council is playing its part in improving Ellesmere Port town centre. Work is well underway on sites that the Council manages, including transforming Ellesmere Port Market, creating new transport connections to the station and bringing sites forward to develop low carbon homes.

“This work follows successful projects delivered since 2020, including the Ellesmere Port Bus Interchange, the Portal building, Theatre Porto and the launch of the ORIGIN industrial cluster. The work in Ellesmere Port is responding to changing shopping habits and recognises the need for town centres to offer more than retail.

“These projects have delivered many of the ambitions in the existing masterplan, and we are asking residents and businesses to help shape the next stage of regeneration in Ellesmere Port. The refresh is an opportunity to consider the whole of the town centre, including sites not owned by the Council, and will help us to work with stakeholders to develop an aspirational and deliverable vision for Ellesmere Port.”

Over the next few weeks, businesses and residents can share their ideas and aspirations.
