Cheshire West and Chester Council is asking people their opinions about the new draft Housing Strategy.
The strategy will cover all sectors of the housing market including social rents, the private rental sector, and owner occupation, as well as specialist housing provision for older people and adults with additional needs.
The strategy sets out three key priorities for the housing in the borough over the next ten years and will underpin the Council’s approach:
- Support that enables residents to access the right home and live well.
- Homes that are fit for now and ready for the future.
- Affordable homes of all tenures across the borough.
The strategy has been developed following feedback from the recent engagement event as well as a series of workshops with partners including health, care, housing associations, developers, charities, and Cheshire Police, amongst others. The consultation is available online and paper copies are available in local libraries and on request. There will also be a series of drop in events where individuals and organisations can come along and share their thoughts on the new strategy. A steering group was also set up including housing associations, the Council’s Adult and Children’s Services, the voluntary sector, the Council’s Regeneration team, the private rental sector, and members of the community.
Councillor Christine Warner, Cabinet Member for Homes, Planning and Safer Communities, said:
“Housing is a key priority for the Council. We want to make sure that everyone has access to good quality, safe and affordable housing. Housing influences so many areas of people’s lives, whether it be economic, financial, and wellbeing. This strategy covers everything from social housing, renting, and provision for people with additional needs. I encourage residents to have their say on the strategy, to make sure housing in Cheshire West and Chester works for everyone and is fit for the future.”
