Rehearsals are in full swing at a Cheshire school for the staging of a stage version of a classic British feature film.
Following on from their recent and hugely successful production of "Little Shop of Horrors", The Grange School in Hartford are looking forward to welcoming audiences for the school’s forthcoming production of the much-loved classic, "The Railway Children" which will be staged at The Grange Theatre from Thursday 23rd - Saturday 25th June at 7pm There will also be a matinee performance at 1.30pm on Saturday 25th June. Refreshments from Ice Cream Creations will also be available.
Written by E. Nesbit nearly 100 years ago, The Railway Children tells the story of three children - Roberta, Peter and Phyllis who have to leave their home in London and move to the country when their father mysteriously goes away. The railway becomes a source of fascination and solace to the children and along with Perks the Porter and his lively brood of children they discover a new and exciting life. The book was turned in to a highly successful film in 1970 with the screenplay written by Actor and Director Lionel Jeffries and starring Jenny Agutter, Sally Thomsett, Dinah Sheridan and Bernard Cribbins. The story was also adapted in to a popular TV series and "The Railway Children Return", a sequel to the original film is due to hit the silver screen next month.
