Frodsham Recycling Centre given planning permission to continue service

Frodsham Recycling Centre will continue to operate at its site off Church Street for the next two years, after temporary planning permission was given.

Planning Committee yesterday (Tuesday 7 September) approved a proposal to extend the temporary planning permission for the site.

During the next two years, a review will be carried out of all the household waste recycling centres in the borough, beginning with Frodsham.

The current management arrangements for management of the Borough’s household waste recycling centers (HWRC) comes to an end in 2023 and the review will inform the work required to set out how the Council will run our HWRCs in a way which actively addresses the Climate Emergency in our Borough and ensures we continue to maximise recycling rates.

Cheshire West and Chester Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and has a target to be carbon neutral by 2030 and for the borough to be carbon neutral by 2045. A Climate Emergency Response Plan has been developed setting out the actions needed to achieve this target, including how residents can play their part.

Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, said: “The Waste Management Strategy 2021-2031 sets out our plan to increase levels of reuse and surpass the current recycling rate.

“The strategy is wide-ranging and how we operate our household waste recycling centres in the future is one part of it. We need to reduce the amount of residual waste and recycle more to address the Climate Emergency.

“A review into Frodsham Recycling Centre, and the other recycling centres in the borough, over the next couple of years will ensure they are providing a service which will enable us to achieve our recycling targets.”
