A wellbeing programme, which has helped more than 300 people in Winsford, has opened in Ellesmere Port.
EP Active is a free class-based programme by Brio Leisure, introduced for adults wanting to improve their health and wellbeing.
It is open to Ellesmere Port adults aged 18 and over who have a BMI of between 30 and 39.9 and who have not been a member of Brio Leisure for three months.

Brio, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s health and wellbeing provider, has already helped more than 300 people through the same programme in Winsford, which is called CW7 Active. Around three quarters of those completing the programme have achieved weight loss and participants say it has helped them feel fitter and improved their mental health.
James Price, Project Lead at Brio Leisure, said: “EP Active will provide a space for people of all abilities and backgrounds to come together with others who share a similar goal.
“We’ve had some great feedback from residents who have used the service in Winsford. People say it helps them feel better mentally as well as physically, helps them to get moving and they’ve seen really good results.
“With the cost of living crisis we’re all looking after the pennies and finding ways to make cut backs, but exercise shouldn’t be one of them, and this free service is here to help.”
Winsford resident Matthew, 44, said: “The CW7 Active program has really changed my mindset. I wasn’t really sure I’d stick it but I got myself in a good routine (I go at least three times a week) and I actually enjoy and look forward to going to Brio.
“My body has physically changed a great deal. My weight loss is nearly two stone and currently weighing in at the lowest I have weighed in over 15 years.”
EP Active is a 12-week class-based programme including two exercise classes per week, one session including nutritional education. During the programme participants will also receive a one-to-one induction with a personalised exercise programme, tailored nutritional advice, 12-week gym and swim pass for Brio Leisure and access to an online digital platform containing home workouts, recipes and health and wellbeing resources.
Cllr Louise Gittins, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Leader and Cabinet Member for Poverty and Wellbeing, said: “Staying active is one of the ways we can all improve our health and wellbeing, but it can be difficult to start if you’ve never done it before, or if you’ve had a break.
“As a Council we want to help all adults live longer, healthier and happier lives, so we’re really pleased our partner Brio is offering these classes.
“This free programme is the ideal route back into improving your fitness and wellbeing.”
