Flintshire County Council’s Eco Champions programme empowers primary school students to take practical action for our environment.
Flintshire Eco Champions explores biodiversity, climate change, energy, and sustainability in a fun, engaging way, equipping pupils with the knowledge and ideas to make a difference. By supporting young people to understand the challenges and the actions they can take, the programme supports a greener and safer future for Flintshire.
Earlier in 2025, pupils participated in Flintshire Eco Champions, and the project is set to continue from September. Pupils will explore the connections between climate change and nature loss, how natural habitat creation can help wildlife in schools and gardens and learn about energy saving and waste reduction. The programme inspires children to think creatively about making a difference at school and home, supporting a generation of environmentally aware learners.
Flintshire Eco Champions is delivered by Flintshire County Councils experienced Play Development Team, supported by the Natural Environment Team, who have been praised for the enthusiasm and variety they bring to the sessions. The programme is grant funded through Welsh Governments Local Places for Nature funding.
Cllr Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism said:
"Flintshire Eco Champions is an excellent demonstration of cross department working between the Natural Environment and Play Development teams at Flintshire County Council. Acting for nature and our future generations is important across all our functions, it’s great to see grant funding secured to deliver such a positive project."
