Flintshire County Council’s Trading Standards team has taken part in Operation Sceptre during a national week of action against knife crime.
The operation involved working in partnership with North Wales Police where underage volunteers visited a number of premises across the county.
On each occasion, businesses refused to sell knives to the young volunteers, demonstrating strong compliance with age-restriction laws and a commitment to community safety in Flintshire.
Councillor Ted Palmer, Cabinet member for Highways, Assets and Public Protection, said:
“We are delighted with the results of this exercise. It’s vital that knives do not fall into the hands of young people and these checks show that local businesses are taking their responsibility seriously.
“It is important that local authorities work alongside the police to ensure businesses are fulfilling their legal obligations and give a clear message that non-compliance with the law will not be tolerated. We will continue to work closely with police and retailers to keep our communities safe.”
The exercise was part of North Wales Police’s ongoing efforts to reduce knife crime. The council is committed to raising awareness among businesses and reinforcing the importance of compliance.
