A film has been released to highlight work in Cheshire West and Chester to improve equality, inclusion and health for all residents.
The film is part of the Director of Public Health’s Annual Report for 2023. The report is called Our Changing Population, which looks at how communities in the borough have altered in the past 10 years.
All Directors of Public Health have a statutory duty to produce an independent report each year, which also provides advice and recommendations on population health to professionals and the public.
This is the first report of Professor Helen Bromley, who was appointed Director of Public Health at Cheshire West and Chester Council in July 2023.
Professor Bromley said:
“In 2023, the full data from the 2021 census was published, highlighting how our population is changing. In summary, we are becoming older and more diverse in our ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation.
“These changes bring opportunities for the borough along with challenges to ensure that we can meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable residents, while striving for better health for all.”
The report highlights some of the work undertaken in 2023 by the Council and its partners for inclusion groups, including: older adults, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQ+(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Questioning, and other sexual and gender minority identities), and those from the traveller or homeless populations.
