Flintshire County Council’s Access and Natural Environment Team will be welcoming visitors to their stand at the ‘Festival of the Sea’ at Flint Castle on Saturday.
The event marks a major step forward in realising the ambition of a ‘Flintshire Coast Park’ for the benefit of Flintshire residents and visitors. Celebrating the rich natural habitat of the Dee Estuary and Flintshire Coastline, the ‘Flintshire Coast Park’ is hugely significant in ensuring people have access to the natural environment, for recreation and to improve their health and wellbeing.
Find out more about the event:
The Coast Park reaches across the Flintshire coast from Saltney to Talacre, taking in the Northern Gateway and Garden City, Connah’s Quay and Shotton, Flint, Bagillt, Greenfield, Llanerch-y-mor and Mostyn, and Gronant.
Councillor Chris Dolphin, Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Climate said:
“This marks an important moment in Flintshire. Our focus is to continue to protect and improve the natural environment, moving forward from the legacy of heavy industry. The Coast Park ambition is a place where wildlife and nature can thrive, and sustainable businesses can flourish, supporting jobs and volunteering, and enhancing an important visitor destination.”
The Flintshire Coast Park project has benefited from £396,580.37 from Flintshire’s allocation of the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which further improved the Flintshire Coast and connections with the surrounding countryside. The funding enabled Flintshire County Council to create the building blocks for the Coast Park, including planting over 400 trees, improving and creating new footpaths, enhancing habitats for the protected Natterjack Toad colony and creating a plan for the next 5 years.
The Chairman of Flintshire County Council and the Mayor of Flint will be present for the official launch and cake cutting at midday, celebrating the achievements to date.
FCC Chairman Councillor Dennis Hutchinson said:
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our coast. We hope people will attend to learn more about the Coast Park and enjoy the activities on offer on the day.”
