The importance of sustainability to the business community will be explored in a free online session hosted by the University of Chester.
The panel of speakers will discuss the prominence of sustainability for businesses in a new era focused on decarbonisation and the rise in consumer expectations of businesses committing to this agenda.
Three businesses, Protein Rebel, Peel L and P and Cadent Gas, will share how they have established a sustainability-driven focus central to their operations. The keynote speaker is Dr Angela Needle, Director of Strategy at Cadent Gas, who will talk about hydrogen and its role in net zero.
Dr Needle is focusing on the approach to delivering net zero, the energy transition and the role that gases such as hydrogen have in the future energy mix. She is a huge advocate of the utilities sector, loving the fact that the services provided are invisible yet essential. She is a big supporter of environmental, climate change and diversity issues and is a Founder of the Women’s Utilities Network, which focuses on supporting the development of the careers of women in the utilities sector.
Professor Joe Howe, Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute, will discuss how the University of Chester is engaging with the industrial decarbonisation agenda. He said: “Cheshire and Warrington has one of the UK’s highest concentrations of industry and manufacturing providing many highly skilled and paid jobs. To deliver decarbonisation and drive economic growth, we need to act to reduce our carbon emissions and safeguard these industries. Right now, we have a world leading proposition to deliver industrial decarbonisation, working together across the region we can make this happen.”
The event is being organised by the University’s commercial Business Growth team. Businesses can benefit from engaging with the University in many ways including working with its students including through placements, student projects or internships; being based in one of the University’s dedicated locations which include office space; laboratories or production kitchens; engage in a business support programme or work with academic experts on research and development.
The event which takes place on Wednesday, February 24 from 9.45am to 11.45am will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and will include a Question and Answer session. To book a place visit https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/135678862129.
