Pete Howell, owner of Prime Health and Fitness in Ellesmere Port, has accomplished an extraordinary charity feat, completing 12 marathons in 12 consecutive days to raise more than £2,500 for the Children Today Charitable Trust.
A seasoned personal trainer with 21 years of experience and a decade of running his gym, Pete was inspired to take on the ultimate challenge after learning about the charity’s work from a gym member. Motivated by their efforts to support disabled children and young adults, Pete devised the endurance test as a festive nod to the “12 Days of Christmas.”
Pete explained:
“I took on five marathons in five days last year, but I really wanted to push myself further. When I learned about Children Today and the incredible impact they have on families in our community, I knew I had to step up and help fundraise for them.”
The challenge, which ran from December 1st to December 12th, saw Pete joined by more than 30 gym clients and members who rallied around to offer their support and motivation. Despite gruelling weather conditions – including Storm Darragh on Day 7 – Pete persevered and completed the challenge outdoors without resorting to a treadmill.
Pete shared:
“The first day was deceivingly sunny and pleasant, and I underestimated the pacing. By two-thirds of the way, I was struggling and questioning if I could continue. But I powered through, and I’m so proud to have finished the challenge and raised so much for such an important cause.”
Emma Prescott, Charity Director at Children Today, praised Pete’s incredible effort:
“A single marathon is a huge accomplishment, but completing 12 marathons in 12 days is simply phenomenal. Pete’s dedication and determination are truly inspiring, and we are blown away by the funds he has raised. These contributions will go towards life-changing adapted equipment like trikes, mobility aids, and sensory tools that improve the quality of life for disabled children and their families.”
Pete added:
“I’m so grateful to everyone who joined me, donated, and cheered me on. Knowing that we’ve made a difference to such an amazing charity made every step worth it.”
