Ellesmere Port is preparing to be lit up this Christmas with hundreds of homemade lanterns.
Free lantern kits will be distributed through local organisations in Ellesmere Port. Each kit contains full instructions but artist Russell Kirk has also shared a video on Youtube showing how it’s done: https://youtu.be/_W8DyNQduYg
Once completed, there will be a map showing where all the lanterns are so register the location by visiting Action Transport Theatres website: http://www.actiontransporttheatre.org/LightUpThePort
The kits have been funded by Cheshire West and Chester Councillors budgets and delivered in partnership with Action Transport Theatre, PALS / Little Sutton Sapphires WI, The Boaty Theatre Company, Friends of Stanney Oaks and Westminster Families.
Councillor Paul Donovan, Cabinet Member for Democracy, Workforce and Localities said: “Can I be the first to start the countdown to Christmas? Whilst we will all miss the usual town centre light switch on event and lantern parade, Ellesmere Port will lose none of the traditional festive atmosphere. Our Christmas tree and lights will still be on display from 20 November including the star decorated by Parklands Primary school taking pride of place on top of the tree.
“Don’t forget to make one of our lanterns to display at home and look out for the large lanterns made by Ellesmere Port Primary Schools that will be displayed in the windows of the library, Civic Hall and Port Arcades from the 1 December.
