An Ellesmere Port brain damage survivor has embarked on an inspirational fundraising challenge to support disabled children.
Loyd Wildridge, a young man with extraordinary determination and resilience, has embarked on a remarkable fundraising journey virtually walking and cycling the 20 miles from his home to Anfield, the iconic home of his beloved Reds.
His motivation stems from a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others to help raise vital funds for a cause that is close to his heart, after receiving support towards funding from the charity for an adapted trike several years ago and more recently a specialist seating system.
25-year-old Loyd, from Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port – who had to relearn to walk and talk after suffering brain damage in infancy – is aiming to complete a total of 57 laps of his neighbourhood on foot and his adapted trike over the coming weeks.
His mum, Helen Dalby-Wildridge, said:
"Loyd is determined to push his own boundaries and show that true ability is about the spirit to make a difference," says his mum, Helen Dalby-Wildridge.
“Loyd has always shown incredible strength and compassion. We are immensely proud of his efforts to support Children Today and inspire others facing similar challenges. To most people what Loyd is aiming to achieve wouldn’t be a challenge but for Loyd he is really pushing himself to his limits all for a good cause."
Living with kyphosis, scoliosis, and a leg length discrepancy among other challenges, Loyd faces daily hurdles that would deter many. However, he refuses to be defined by his physical limitations. Instead, he is using his energy and determination to inspire and support others through his ambitious fundraising efforts.
Emma Prescott, charity director at Children Today, commended Loyd's dedication:
"Loyd's commitment to raising awareness and funds for children and young people with disabilities is truly inspiring. His efforts will directly contribute to improving lives and providing essential equipment that enhances independence and quality of life.
“Loyd’s fundraising challenge not only serves as a personal testament to resilience but also as a beacon of hope within the community. His journey underscores the belief that with determination and compassion, individuals can create positive change and uplift those around them.”
Children Today is a UK-based charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children and young people with disabilities. Through support towards funding for specialised equipment from adapted trikes and adapted buggies to sensory equipment and tough furniture, the charity strives to empower families and improve accessibility, comfort and wellbeing for those most in need.
Loyd has already completed 39 of his 57 laps and raised nearly £500.
