Eco-aware catering team ‘treats’ key-workers

Eco-aware Chester University staff have given surplus sweet treats to key-workers working at the forefront of the coronavirus epidemic.

A sustainable solution was needed for confectionery and soft drinks no longer needed now most students have gone back home. The University’s Catering team was only too glad to give its surplus “in-date” goodies - chocolate, crisps and soft drinks - to the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, West Cheshire Foodbank, Stone House Residential Home in Cheyney Road and Blacon Police Station, as well as the small number of students still living on University sites.

Ian White, Domestic Bursar/ Executive Director of the University’s Hospitality and Residential Services, said: “The University was looking for a sustainable way for the use of the perishable food and was delighted that some of our local key-workers and students were pleased to accept it. Not only has good food not gone to waste, but the University has done its bit to support front-line staff working hard to protect and care for our families, friends and vulnerable people at this difficult time.”
