Chester FC have confirmed that Declan Weeks has been named Club Captain for the 2025/26 season, with Jack Bainbridge assisting him as Vice-Captain.
Weeks has been an ever-present in midfield since his arrival five years ago, having now played over 200 games for the Blues and sits joint second in our all-time appearances list.
Bainbridge arrived last summer and became an instant hit in the Seals midfield, before signing up for a further year with the club in June.
Manager Calum McIntyre said:
“Obviously with Connell moving on to the Coaching staff, it isn’t practical for him to retain the armband for the coming season. That’s something we both discussed at length and were completely in agreement. Connell plays a massive part in the winning environment we want to create and that won’t change.
“Dec has served as the Club’s vice-captain, seeing him lead the team for several spells over the last three seasons. This is entirely the right time for him to take on the Club Captain role and I am delighted he feels the same.
“Dec has been an incredible servant to the football club and is highly regarded in the dressing room as well by the staff. He will go down as one of the Club’s greats and it is quite right he takes the armband for the coming season.
“He is a perfect fit for the role and it’s one he will relish.”
“Dec will be supported by Jack Bainbridge as the Club’s Vice-Captain. Bambo is a hugely popular member of the dressing room and is recognised for the driving of standards and for his maximum commitment.
“His value to the team is obvious and it is right that he takes on this additional responsibility.
“James Jones will join the Players’ Leadership group alongside the other senior players at the club. It’s vital we remain Coach Led and Player Driven and this is an important part of that.”
On his appointment as Club Captain, Dec added:
“It is a privilege for me to be given the opportunity to Captain this Club.
“Personally, I feel this opportunity has come at the right time for me in my career and it is one I’m ready for. I will give it everything and hopefully help us achieve what we all want.
“Up the Seals!”
Jack also commented on his appointment:
“I am very proud to be named Vice-Captain of such a massive football club.
“I’m really looking forward to supporting Dec and the team and help us build for another great year!”
