As part of the battle against online fraud, Cheshire Police’s Cyber Crime Team have are collaborating with HSBC banks across Cheshire.
The Cyber Crime Team are going to be visiting all of the 10 HSBC branches in Cheshire to promote online safety, as part of their strategy to make Cheshire free from fraud.
The first visit is Chester, where a pop-up surgery in HSBC’s Northgate branch in Chester, between 9:30-15:00.
Experts from the Cyber Crime team will be offering security advice on how to stay free from fraud. Visitors will be able to check whether their current email address has been compromised and how strong their current password is against hackers.
Children can also get involved with the chance to pretend to be a police officer and have their fingerprints taken.
Andrew Kevan, who is leading the event said: “It is important that we get out there and give safety advice and warn people about online fraud, text fraud and hoax phone calls.
“Our partnership with HSBC will hopefully make people more aware of what fraudsters are capable of and how to avoid falling victim to scams which can lead to money being stolen.
“After the visit to the Chester Branch on Northgate Street, there will be nine other visits around the county, so keep your eyes peeled, and come and say hello.”
HSBC’s Local Director Julie Davies said: “I am really looking forward to continuing our collaboration with the Cyber Crime Unit from Cheshire Police with a view to educating our people and customers on the subject of their on line security.
“This collaboration will help both parties to reach as many people, of all ages, as possible to support financial education as well as on line security.”
