A Countess of Chester Hospital consultant has conquered the Great Wall of China to raise hundreds of pounds for charity for her workplace.
Judith Kelly, a Consultant Radiographer, was one of 18 members of the Global Adventure Challenges group who took part in the five day trek along the 6,000km landmark, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Her impressive feat raised £910 for The Countess Charity's Blue Skies Balcony Appeal, which launched in 2020 to fund the construction of a balcony onto the Intensive Care Unit at The Countess of Chester Hospital.
All patients and staff will benefit from the innovative improvement that will make it easier and safer to move patients outside with no loss of space to the existing unit.
Despite describing her charity challenge as 'very demanding', Judith said she would love to do the challenge all over again:
"The Great Wall trek was physically very demanding (unsurprisingly) but the overall positive experience of participating exceeded all my expectations," she explained.
"I knew no one at the outset but met lots of other people from all over the UK who were involved in fundraising for their own and were all equally motivated to do their very best.
"The local people we met along the way were all very friendly and welcoming to us which was very encouraging.
"I would love to do it all again and would encourage anyone else considering going to seize the opportunity," she added.
Nicola Stubbs from the Countess Charity team said:
"We are so proud of Judith for taking part in this incredible challenge. The money she has raised is much needed for us to provide the very best for our patients."
