Council’s winter flooding preparations move to Acton Bridge

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s work to prepare and protect communities across the borough for the coming winter months will move to Acton Bridge next week.

Teams will clear grids (gullies) and also clean the road edge and carrier drains in the areas affected by flooding in January this year.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, Councillor Karen Shore said: “As we are all hearing from the COP26 environmental summit at the moment, Climate Change is affecting us all and is a factor in local flooding.  Following on from last week’s big push in Northwich, our teams will be working in Acton Bridge from 8 to 16 November.

“We want to reassure residents, both in Acton Bridge and across the borough that we are being proactive with our winter preparations and are doing all we can to prepare for risks posed by flooding in the coming months.”

The grid clearing work will take place on the A49 and on Acton Lane/Sandy Lane.  Teams will work off-peak between 9:30am and 3.30pm to minimise disruption to motorists.

Due to the narrowness of Acton Lane, it will need to be closed while the work takes place and a local diversion will be in place.

The work on the A49 will be undertaken using temporary two and three-way traffic signals.

The work is expected to take two days on Acton Lane, three days on the A49 and approximately two days on Sandy Lane.

Work programmes are subject to change and any issues identified will be prioritised for future action.
