Council supports Grief Awareness Week 2020

Chester Town Hall will be lit-up yellow for a week from Wednesday, 2 December to show support for Grief Awareness Week.

The national event has been arranged by the Good Grief Trust, the UK’s leading bereavement charity.

The illuminated show of support at Chester Town Hall has been spearheaded by the Council’s Street Lighting team.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, Councillor Karen Shore said: “I’m delighted our Street Lighting team has been able to help this poignant campaign.  It’s a very simple but striking way to get involved and raise awareness of the support that exists for people dealing with grief.

“This year more than ever, people have experienced grief in such unimaginably, difficult circumstances.  Many of those bereaved through the pandemic have felt alone, isolated in their grief during lockdown and other restrictions on daily life.”

The Good Grief Trust launched Grief Awareness Week in 2019, working with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Bereavement Support and hundreds of UK charities, bereavement support services and individuals affected by grief.

At the end of the campaign at 6pm on Tuesday, 8 December, the central dome of St Paul’s Cathedral will be illuminated in yellow with the National Grief Awareness branding, this will be broadcast live on the BBC.
