Cheshire West and Chester Council has joined with partners to support a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep people in the borough safe.
Running from 3 to 9 July, 'ASB Awareness Week 2023' aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB, to report it and protect those experiencing it.
The week features a series of events across the whole of the UK involving councils, police forces, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.
The Council is working with partners to deliver key engagements and highlight opportunities to report ASB and crime to mark the return of ASB Awareness Week for 2023.
Recent YouGov research found that almost one in five people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them; and one in 10 have actually moved. Despite this, over half of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report it..
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Homes, Planning and Safer Communities, Councillor Christine Warner said: “Please do not suffer in silence if you experience ASB. Incidents can be reported to the shared police and council anti-social behaviour team through online reporting on the Cheshire Police website, calling 101, or on 999 if people feel that they are at immediate risk or in danger.
“ASB can range from relatively low-level to more serious and even lower level ASB can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.”
Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve who are the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation added: “It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities.
“We are delighted that Cheshire West and Chester Council is supporting this hugely important campaign. It is vital to develop partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”
