An officer in Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Communities team has been recognised in the New Year Honours.
Patricia Johnson, a Communities and Engagement Officer, has been awarded a British Empire Medal. An award for ‘hands on’ service to the local community.
Council Leader, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “This is such exciting news and really well deserved. Trish has been at the heart of the town of Winsford during over 40 years of public and community service.
“She has used her in-depth knowledge of the town’s community and culture to shape service delivery and introduce improvements which will provide benefits for generations to come.
“Trish like many of our officers and residents during COVID also went above and beyond what was asked of her to ensure Winsford’s most vulnerable residents were safe and had what they needed – like shopping or medication - at times dealing with extremely vulnerable people at their lowest point which was a real challenge emotionally.
“Thank you and many congratulations on this significant recognition for your contribution to Winsford communities and Cheshire West and Chester Council.”
Examples of Patricia’s work includes supporting the consultation and engagement for the new Town Park. This helped secure a Council investment of £900k to transform the underused and tired landscape into a popular community space, which is valued well-used by Winsford residents. She then went the extra mile to help and support the Town Council and volunteers of the Friends of the Park group that help to maintain it.
Following her work during the pandemic, Patricia has supported local volunteers to create a new organisation, the Community Grocery, to provide low-cost food to residents.
She has also supported the local cultural offer, local wellbeing groups, faith projects, high street festivals and engaged effectively with local support organisations including police, fire and youth services.
British Empire Medal (BEM) - Awarded for a ‘hands-on’ service to the local community. This could be a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a relatively short duration (3 to 4 years) that has made a significant difference.
