A new joined-up approach to managing publicly accessible Council-owned land across the county has been approved by Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet.
The ‘One Council’ approach will see this type of land managed collectively rather than by individual services, ensuring a consistent response to any waste and environmental issues.
The land the council owns and manages ranges from adopted highway, footpaths and car parks to town squares, green spaces and sports pitches.
In the past, different council services have responded independently of each other to reports of waste problems or environmental issues, with responsibility for different land assets sometimes being unclear and complicated.
This can lead to a protracted response to dealing with any issues on the land, such as fly-tipping, overgrown foliage and repairs, which in turn can lead to complaints.
The new approach will provide clear ownership of all Council land and streamline how issues are managed to enable faster, more coordinated responses.
Katie Wilby, Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, said:
“In the past it hasn’t always been clear who is responsible for different areas of land, and that can result in delays and frustration for residents.
“This approach brings everything together, so we can respond to issues more quickly and make sure land is managed in a more consistent and effective way.”
