Following on from the sell-out success of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, at Theatr Clwyd near Mold, a local community theatre company is heading back to Chester this summer, with auditions for its production of a much-loved classic musical due to be held next month.
Previously based at The Forum Studio Theatre in the City centre, Tip Top Productions will be bringing the iconic musical "The Sound of Music" to Storyhouse from Wednesday 2nd - Saturday 5th August at 7.30pm with a matinee at 2,30pm on Saturday 5th August withauditions set to take place at Upton Village Hall, Heath Road in Upton on Saturday 1st April from 10.00am. Tickets for the show will be on sale to Storyhouse Members from 10th March and on sale to the general public from 13th March.
Previously staged by Tip Top at The Chester Gateway Theatre in 2002, The Sound of Music will be directed for the company by its founder Peter Swingler OBE with musical direction by Wendy Tucker, who was last seen in the Storyhouse orchestra pit as the conductor of Chester Operatic Society's production of Me and My Girl. The production team also includes Choreographer Joni Rusling who has worked extensively with several local companies as both a choreographer and performer.
The show's producers are looking to cast all roles including Maria, famously portrayed in the film version by Julie Andrews and also two teams of young performers to play the Von Trapp Children.
Speaking about bringing The Sound of Music to Storyhouse, the show's Director Peter Swingler OBE said "Following on from our production of "Calendar Girls the Musical" at Storyhouse last year, we are delighted to be back in Chester with such an iconic musical. The Sound of Music is the perfect feelgood show for the summer and we're sure it's going to be crowd pleaser."
