Community Focused Schools have been working with both special schools in Flintshire to facilitate activities for families with children who have complex needs.
Starting in February half term, working with Gwella and other providers, activities have taken place at Flint & Deeside Leisure and Ty Calon.
So far there have been 13 days of activities provided offering soft play, bowling, sensory play, swimming, multi-sports, inflatable, ice skating, forest school, bush craft, theatre and a disco.
In total 121 families have taken part in 880 separate sessions, with comments from parents:
“A safe environment for our children to play”, “Much needed routine”, “Best Half Term”, “We can’t wait till the next half term activities”, “Not feeling judged but feeling supported”, “Not only is it beneficial for the child but to us parents too”
“You and the team did a fantastic job. As there are no holiday clubs that cater for children with ALN these activities provide a huge opportunity for enjoyment and stimulation in a different environment that caters for the children's needs. This should be a permanent offering with adequate funding secured.”
Cllr Mared Eastwood, Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language, Culture and Leisure said:
“It is fantastic that, working in partnership with Gwella, this wide range of activities has been made available to children and young people who need additional support and that they have enjoyed participating so much. This has been a great success, made possible by Community Focused Schools grant funding from Welsh Government.”
