Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer visited the Rage Fitness Wellbeing Centre in Chester, to speak to founder Craig Brown about how £5,000 from the Community Action Fund has aided their work to support and empower young people.
Through sessions in local schools and at their Wellbeing Centre, Rage Fitness identifies young people in need of support and helps to divert them from anti-social behaviour, drugs and exploitation.
A 12-week wellbeing programme helps to improve physical and mental health, and Craig sees an 85-100% improvement in young people’s behaviour and self-esteem in all of the groups he works with.
Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, said:
“It was great to hear from Craig about how Rage Fitness is transforming young people’s lives through the Wellbeing Centre and working with local schools.
“Preventing and tackling crime is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan, so speaking directly to young people at risk of becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour is key to keeping our communities safe.
“This project and the difference it is making is what the Community Action Fund is all about and I’m proud to support Rage Fitness in their aim to improve lives and prevent crime.”
The success of their work with young people has seen Rage Fitness work with the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales as well as Youth Justice Services in Cheshire and Merseyside, and has also earned them the accolade of ‘Best Independent Wellbeing Centre/Gym in the National Fit Pro Awards.
Craig Brown, founder of Rage Fitness, said:
“I am so proud of the partnership with the Commissioner, and with his continued support we can help young men and women divert away from anti-social behaviour, drug & alcohol misuse and reoffending'
“We have proved time and again how impactful our wellbeing programmes are, delivered by a team who have been there and done that, and got the street-lived experience to help the next generation improve physically, mentally and emotionally.”
