Citizens Advice Flintshire are looking to recruit volunteers and are putting the call out for local people wanting to make a big difference in their community.
Training for Volunteer Assessor roles will begin in February and run over a 12 week period to make sure they’re ready to welcome clients and give appropriate guidance.
Whilst no experience is necessary, Citizens Advice Flintshire are encouraging enquiries from people with:
- good listening skills
- clear verbal communication skills
- computing skills - word processing, online searches, email etc.
- research skills - finding relevant information
- writing skills - to record client cases clearly and accurately.
Working mostly on a face to face basis or via telephone, the Volunteer Assessor’s role will be to interview and help clients with their problems:
- researching relevant information
- exploring and identifying the most appropriate course of action
- presenting their findings to the client
- acting on behalf of the client to make phone calls, write letters, fill in forms etc.
Volunteer Assessors should be reliable, open-minded and non-judgemental with the ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
They will need to commit to a weekly training day for the first 12 weeks, along with some shadowing and mentoring with experienced assessors and advisers.
Having received full training, each Volunteer Assessor will be required to work one day per week on a rota basis, and are expected to stay with the service for at least 12 months, due to the amount of training involved.
As a Volunteer Assessor you’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team, making a real difference to people’s lives and gaining new skills as a stepping stone to paid work, whilst learning about a wide range of issues, such as benefits, debt, housing, employment, discrimination and consumer rights.
