Named one of the UK’s ‘Best Places to Live’ in 2024, Christleton has held a village fête nearly every year since 1875.
Organised by a team of volunteers, the community celebration raises thousands to channel back into local groups and good causes.
This year, the 150th Christleton Village Fête will be held on Saturday 28th June on the Christleton Primary School playing field, in a family-friendly celebration steeped in tradition.
Co-Chair of the Christleton Village Fête Committee, Kate Williams, said:
“Each year between 700 and 1,000 visitors attend the event. As ever we will kick off the fête with a parade through the village led by the Wirral Pipe Band, followed by our new Rose Queen, retinue, and children from the Christleton Pre-school, who have been working hard to create their fancy dress outfits to fit with our “150 year” theme.”
All proceeds from the Christleton Village Fête are channelled back into the community to support local groups, with more than £3,500 raised most years to support activities such as the playgroup, sports’ groups, Christleton’s primary and high schools, Christmas dinner for older residents, and the local Brownies, Cubs and Scouts.
Co-Chair of the Christleton Village Fête Committee, Sarah Cousens, said:
“To mark our milestone year, we’ve organised plenty of traditional fête activities that are in-keeping with Victorian times, such as Punch & Judy. We’ll also have a history tent, and the usual stands from our village groups, including the WI, The Pit Group and St James’ Church; as well as family-friendly activities from Cheshire Mama Club and Painted Wildlings.
“An enormous thank you must go to Christleton Primary School for allowing us to host the event on their field and being so supportive. And a special shout-out to our Treasurer, Steve Davies, who has been a valued member of the Committee for more than 30 years.”
The parade will start at 1pm, leading visitors to the entrance of the fête on Quarry Lane, which will open at 1.30pm. Admission is £5 for a family, £2 an adult, £1 for children/OAPs and under-fives are free. No dogs, except assistance dogs, are permitted.
More than 25 stalls and sideshows are exhibited around a central arena and main stage; in which will be performances and demonstrations, including a live band. Stalls will offer jewellery, crafts, produce, a prosecco tent, raffle, ice cream, burgers, and the popular ‘Plate Smash’!
