Child victims of crime helped by Commissioner’s funding

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire John Dwyer’s Community Action Fund has awarded £5,000 to charity Embrace Child Victims of Crime, to help them to continue their work supporting children and young people.

Each year, the Commissioner sets aside £100,000 to fund projects or initiatives that will deliver community safety or crime prevention activities.

In 2020, Cheshire Police had over 17,000 caseloads of domestic abuse, however this is likely only the tip of the iceberg. Embrace provides immediate support for young people and their families experiencing domestic abuse as well as other types of crime.

John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner said: “Providing tailored support for victims of crime is important to help them in their recovery. Adults and children have different needs both emotionally and physically and being able to fund an organisation like Embrace that tailors support for children and young people is key to their recovery.”

Embrace was successfully awarded £5,000 from the Community Action Fund for their Early Intervention: Tailored Packages of Trauma-Informed Support programme. This offers children and young people emotional support in the form of counselling and physical support, providing them with the resources they need to get their life back on track.

John Dwyer added: “Ensuring victims of crime are supported is something that is very close to my heart, and I was moved to hear about the effect this organisation has on the lives of the children and young people who use it.

“I am committed to supporting young victims of crime, and this investment is just one of the ways I’m looking at helping and commissioning victim services.”
