Chester University offers live lunchtime webinars for A-Level Religious Studies students

A-Level Religious Studies students – and their teachers – are able to take advantage of live lunchtime webinars being offered by University academics.

The University of Chester’s Department of Theology and Religious Studies (TRS) has come up with the series of lectures – on topics related to the A level Religious Studies syllabus - during this difficult and unprecedented time.

Associate Professor Hannah Bacon, who is Acting Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Chester, said: “These events are giving A level pupils across the country the chance to benefit from some additional tuition and to draw on the subject expertise of staff in our University Department. Each session comprises of a 30-minute lecture followed by a 20 minute live Q and A. I am delighted to say that each lecture has so far attracted an audience of over 200 participants.

“This is a Departmental initiative that has been co-ordinated by Dr Wendy Dossett, who is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and very well-known up and down the country for her work in supporting Religious Education. She leads on our schools work in TRS and, with colleagues in the Department, has put together an incredibly exciting programme of webinars.”

The webinars take place every Tuesday and start at 12 midday. The series started earlier in May, with ‘Christianity, Animals and the Climate Crisis’; and ‘Women in Buddhism’ as the first two subjects. Topics being covered in future lectures include: The problem of evil after the Holocaust; Can God suffer and does it help?; and Arguments for the existence of God. The next webinar, today (Tuesday May 19,) will be ‘The person of Jesus’, which will be presented by Professor Paul Middleton. Professor Middleton will be looking at what we can know about the life of Jesus: his teaching, miracles, death, and resurrection.

Teachers can email trs@chester.ac.uk with the name and address of their school, and the Department will send the links to the series of live streams.
