The ‘Chester’ sign in the city’s cathedral gardens has dressed up for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, raising money and awareness for good causes in the process.
The individual letters are being decorated in unique styles for the Jubilee celebrations. Each letter will represent a local charity, with a sign in front to tell people a bit more about the good cause with a handy QR code for any donations.
The seven charities being represented are: CSASS, Chester Pride, Ark Angels Animal Rescue, Kids Bank Chester, Dial West Cheshire, Vivo Care Choices and Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
The decorations are intended to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and each letter’s unique new look reflects the important work of each charity– for example, the ‘S’ represents Kids Bank Chester and will be made up of red, white, and blue tassel bunting made from repurposed children’s clothes.
The decorations will be on display throughout the Jubilee weekend for visitors to come and see, learn more about the charities and donate if they wish.
The decoration has been organised by Destination Chester and Marketing Cheshire in coordination with the charities.
Jen McAndrew, Project Manager for Destination Chester, said: “The sign has already been a big hit with visitors and residents. It felt like the perfect place for Chester to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
“We’re delighted with how it looks and hope as many people as possible come out and check it out. While it’s our way of celebrating this weekend’s events, it also serves an important purpose, helping to highlight the work of seven local charities and give people an opportunity to make a donation.
“If you’re visiting Chester this weekend or need some plans, please do pay the sign a visit and be sure to post your pictures online, including #Chester.”
Joe Manning, Chief Executive of Marketing Cheshire said: “There’s loads going on across Cheshire and Warrington this weekend to mark the Queen’s fantastic 75 years on the throne and I’d urge everyone to get out and join in. From village fetes, to beacon lighting, high street parades to celebrations at our many great attractions, there really is something for everyone.
“We’re delighted with how the sign looks and hope that it helps to raise a smile amongst visitors as well as some money for charity. Thank you to everyone involved for making it happen.
