Chester Targets New Tour Guides Intake
Chester is seeking to recruit a new intake of City Guides to take visitors on tours around its world-famous heritage.
The initiative is being driven by The Guild of Chester Tour Guides who have announced the launch of a new training course leading to the award of a Green Badge qualification accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding, supported by The British Guild of Tourist Guides and universally recognized by the tourism industry.
The search is now underway to find suitable candidates with the right skill set to welcome visitors to Chester, show groups around its historic sites and bring the city's action-packed past to life as well as provide information on hotels, shopping, places to eat and attractions.
The new course has been developed with input from the University of Chester, Marketing Cheshire and the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.
Liz Roberts, Chair of the Guild of Chester Tour Guides says: 'We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Green Badge Guide training course. Chester needs to strengthen its team of tour guides to help us with the increasing number of group enquiries we are receiving.
We are particularly keen to attract foreign-language speakers to join our team to deliver tours for overseas tour groups and help Chester compete for business in the international market'.
Course Director, Peter Colyer added:' Tour guiding is a really enjoyable and fulfilling profession and is great way to meet people from across the world. Our work can include anything from shore excursions for cruise ship passengers to visits by international tour groups and VIP programmes for corporate clients, the public sector and conference organisers.
We also help destinations with familiarisation trips by the travel trade as well as visits by travel writers, film and TV crews'.
Chester Tour Guides also deliver daily guided walks for visitors as well as the highly popular Ghost Tours that take place throughout the year.
The new course starts in October 2020 with an introductory session in July .Anyone interested in becoming a Green Badge Guide can come along to a presentation about the course at Bishop Lloyd's Palace in Watergate Street Row South on Saturday 29th February 2020 from 10am until 12 noon.
