Chris Matheson MP has spoken of his hopes for a major project in Chester as he joins a bid for almost £17 million.
The bid, submitted to the government’s Levelling Up Fund by Chris alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council, would be used for a centre adjacent to the railway station at City Place. This would include office space, a transport hub and a history centre with archive facilities.
Chris said: “We are seeing some very exciting developments in this part of Chester, and the project we are looking at would bring a wealth of growth and opportunity. The prospect of a history and archives centre in a city with such rich heritage is something we can all get behind, enhancing local opportunities for research and learning. We would also be seeing new commercial opportunities and increased capacity for active travel, helping to improve our local environment. In addition, this ties in well with the redevelopment of the station and Hoole Bridge area.”
He added: “I am very hopeful that we will be able to secure the money we need. This was an extremely professional, comprehensive and detailed bid by the council and I will be continuing to make the case. The bid is now with the government, and I hope they will agree to our proposals.”
