The Chester Comedy festival has selected Chester Market to host two of their events as part of this year’s festival during July organised by Chester BID.
On Sunday 11 July at 1pm the market will host an afternoon of family fun with two fantastic shows from two of the best children’s entertainers in the country - John Harding’s Magic Show and Martin “Bigpig” Mor’s Funny Stuff for Happy People as seen on Blue Peter and CBBC Live.
Followed by on Thursday 15th July at 7pm, more fun at the market with the Chester New Comedian of the Year Grand Final. Following a national search eight aspiring comedians will compete to become the first ever Chester New Comedian of the Year, hosted by Brendan Riley. The market’s food and beverage outlets will be open before and after both shows. The events will be Covid safe with social distancing and face coverings required in the seating area; hand sanitiser stations will also be provided.
Meanwhile four new traders have recently opened stalls at the market: Planet Anime offering collectable Anime figures, Guroma serving traditional Bangladeshi Street Food, Chester Carpets selling a full range of floor-coverings and Hannah`s Heaven, a new sweet shop.
Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration said: “It’s fantastic that Chester Market will be hosting two events as part of the Comedy Festival this year, this is exactly the direction of travel we are looking to follow as we head towards the opening of Chester’s new market next year. It’s also great to be welcoming new independent traders to the market community offering a range of niche and diverse products to complement the great range of traders already in Chester’s award-winning market.”
Opportunities for new traders are available across the borough’s markets. Becoming a market trader is a low cost, low risk way of starting up in business with short term leases and very competitive rents available.
Support and mentoring for new traders is also available from the Markets Team. Please contact:
