As part of the UK’s biggest-ever celebration of community action on climate and nature — Great Big Green Week, Chester Green Weekend returns to the city on 7th and 8th June 2025.
Great Big Green Week, taking place nationally from 7th to 15th June, is coordinated by The Climate Coalition, the UK’s largest group of organisations dedicated to climate action, including the National Trust, WWF, Women’s Institute, Oxfam, and the RSPB.
Now in its second year, Chester Green Weekend is a vibrant, eco-conscious sustainable festival set in the heart of Chester’s historic city centre. Blending history, nature, and innovation, the festival showcases how individuals and communities can live more sustainably. Designed to engage the whole community and attract visitors from across the region, the weekend promises fun, learning, and inspiration.
Helen Tandy from Eco Community UK CIC said:
“We want to shine a light on Chester as a leading sustainable hub in the Northwest and bring residents with us on the journey to a lower-impact future. Chester Green Weekend is free and family friendly, anyone can attend. With exciting activities, workshops, competitions, food, entertainment, and stalls, there’s something for everyone. We’re especially grateful to Chester Cathedral for the use of Dean’s Field, a beautiful family-friendly space that helps make the weekend truly special.”
The event is organised by Eco Community UK CIC, in collaboration with Taste Cheshire, Atfest, and the ōH Design Foundation. It brings together artisan makers, community groups, and major organisations including Chester Zoo, Cheshire West Recycling, and local solar company Genfit.
Now in its fourth year nationally, Great Big Green Week continues to demonstrate growing public support for climate and nature action. With over a million people across the UK participating, the success of events like Chester Green Weekend sends a strong message to policymakers about the demand for real change.
Helen added:
“We couldn’t have made this event happen without support from the Aviva Crowdfunder, Sykes Holiday Cottages, The Townhouse Chester, and the Councillors of Chester Chartered Trustees. Our amazing team is volunteering their time to make Chester Green Weekend an annual event — and we hope you’ll come along and be part of it.”
Chester Green Weekend will be held at Town Hall / Exchange Square and Dean’s Field on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June.
