Everyone at Chester Football Club is appalled at the events in Ukraine and their thoughts are with all those affected.
Our Club stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and we are committed to offering whatever support we can to the innocent victims.
We will be staging a collection on Saturday for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.
Volunteers will be collecting at the Deva Stadium between 1.30pm and 3pm before our Vanarama National League North fixture with Chorley. Supporters of both clubs who are able to donate are invited to do so and we thank you in advance for your donations.
You can also donate to this vital appeal online through the British Red Cross at:
https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-crisis-appeal.
Our Club will be represented at a vigil taking place at Chester Town Hall this Friday from 5.30pm.
The vigil is open to everyone and is an opportunity for Chester to come together and show its support for the Ukranian people and condemnation of Russia’s actions.
There will be a small number of speeches, including from Chester MP Chris Matheson, Mike Johnson from Chester’s City of Sanctuary group and members of the clergy from Chester Cathedral, who will lead a short period of reflection and prayer, for people of all religions and none.
Attendees are reminded of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and are advised to take a lateral flow test before attending. The event is expected to finish around 6pm.
While we pray for a swift and peaceful resolution, we will continue to explore what practical help we can provide through supporting the wider humanitarian effort and we encourage our fans to do the same.
