Chester community turn out for informative session on Severn Trent’s works

The Chester community turned out to learn more about a multi-million-pound project from Severn Trent that is investing in the future resilience of the network in the city.

Severn Trent welcomed people to St Luke’s Church for a presentation focussing on the works that are going ahead on Sandy Lane.

Around 100 people went along to two sessions to hear about the £16million project and what will be happening over the coming months, and it came about as Severn Trent’s team have now moved on site after Cadent and BT have been carrying out their works for the past month.

 Uma Shanker, Programme Director at Severn Trent, said:

“We want to ensure that we keep the community fully informed as our works progress in Chester, which is why we held this second public event, as a chance to talk through everything and discuss how works are progressing.

 “It was positive to see so many people there wanting to find out more and discuss everything that is going on in person and we would like to thank them for coming along.

“As our works continue, we will make sure that we keep talking to the people of Chester to keep them fully informed.”

The meeting was the second that Severn Trent has hosted in the last three months and comes after a successful meeting with local councillors, as well as a community Facebook page created to speak directly with residents.

The new 3km main which is being installed will secure a reliable and sustainable water supply and it is one of the biggest investments Severn Trent has made in the city connecting Boughton Water Treatment works to Huntington Water Treatment Works. 

Severn Trent customers in Chester receive a water-only service from the company, with around 100,000 customers in the city and 46,000 households.

The water treatment works at Boughton, on the outskirts of Chester has been treating water from the River Dee and providing drinking water for the people of Chester for more than 160 years.
