Due to the continued concerns around COVID-19 and the pressures remaining around social distancing, the organisers of the Chester City Passion have taken the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Chester City Passion.
The entire team have been busy monitoring the situation but unfortunately with the level of restrictions and time required to bring together a project of this scale it was no longer viable to continue with an event for 2021
Andy Glover of Link Up added “This was an extremely tough decision for the team to make, we realise the importance of this event for the City of Chester and both understand and share your disappointment but trust you will appreciate our decision. The health, safety and well-being of our cast, crew and public remain our priority at this time.”
Matt Baker will once again return as Artistic Director for the 2022 event “Although the pandemic has impacted on our ability to deliver this major cultural event for Chester, I am very hopeful to be able to recruit a company of performers of all ages ready for the production in 12 months time. It has been a great success in the past, and being able to use our fantastic City of Chester as a backdrop once again will be something for us all to look forward to. We want to contribute to the cultural life of our City with a production that tells an incredible story using the City of Chester as its stage.”
The team remain committed to delivering this event in the City of Chester and plan to return to the streets of Chester to perform the Chester City Passion on Good Friday,
April 15, 2022. Updates will be posted on social media and in the local press. Chester City Passion will precede the next major cycle of the Chester Mystery Plays which will take place in the summer of 2023.
Chester City Passion will once again be kindly supported by Chester Mystery Plays in association with Churches Together, Theatre in the Quarter and Link Up who have agreed to mount the performance across the streets of Chester.
