Chester Bandstand will be marking International Women’s Day with an online showcase and celebration of women’s creativity on Saturday 6, Sunday 7, and Monday 8 March.
The International Women’s Day Special supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council is led by six creative women sharing their own original work and co-curating a selection of additional featured content spread across the three days.
Music comes from RnB cellist and singer-songwriter Satin Beige, electronic art-pop musician Dorothy Bird and violinist Helena Logah.
Visual Artist Estelle Woolley is taking over Chester Bandstand’s Instagram and twitter feed on Saturday to share a mix of work by women artists.
Rachel Lightfoot will be performing two of her poems inspired by gender inequality and the programme will also feature The White Swan, a monologue written and performed by writer, actor and director Grace O’Leary.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “I hope you will be able to join us at this online International Women’s Day event. There is an opportunity to get involved and share your own creative work. If you have a song, poem, piece of art or anything else related to International Women’s Day, please tweet @BandstandCH1 and this will be shared over the course of the three days. This year’s theme is ‘choose to challenge’ “.
The event’s focus is ‘celebrating the work of women creatives and elevate visibility for commercial projects and commissions’, which is one of this year’s International Women’s Day missions. The event is being produced by Chester Bandstand Creative Producer Luke Moore.
