Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
The CWFL Life Members Cup got off to an exciting start on Friday night, second round action Championship side Fender FC pulled off a notable win against Premier Division outfit Hoole Rovers. Ash Power and Jake Prescott were on target for Fender, who secured a 2-1 win to progress to the next round. Meanwhile, Mersey Royal Vets showed their class with a dominant 4-2 victory over Championship leaders Whitegate FC. The Vets raced into a 3-0 lead by half time, thanks to Ian Sheridan’s brace and Robbo Courtenay’s header. Whitegate fought back through Tom Carney’s double, but Anthony Cotgrave sealed the win for Royal with a fourth goal.
On Saturday, the Vets once again proved their worth against open-age opposition, Capenhurst Vets and Handbridge FC played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Capenhurst’s Lewis Walters, Matty Kavanagh, and Ian Armstrong all found the net, but Handbridge responded with goals from Marley Jones, Ryan Bradley, and Martin Moore, sending the game to penalties. Handbridge held their nerve, winning 4-2 in the shootout to advance.
Division 5 side Cheshire Viking Vets shocked Division 1 side Queens Vets with a deserved 2-0 victory thanks to a brace from Stuart Hardman.
Chester Nomads 4th narrowly edged past Waggon & Horses Reserves with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Richard Birtwhistle and Fergus McKeown.
Waverton thrashed West Kirby Vets 6-2 despite goals from Lee Bedding and Ben Lonsdale for the Vets. Louis Jones starred for Waverton, netting a brace, with Louis Finn, Joe Rigby, Jack Broadhurst, and Stu Scheuber also getting on the scoresheet.
Ellesmere Port Red Lions Vets demolished Sutton Rangers Reserves 7-0. Graeme Davidson was the standout, scoring five goals, including two audacious lobs. Ben Powell and Scott Rowley also found the net in a great team performance.
In first-round action, Hoole Wanderers Vets made light work of Waggon & Horses Vets with a 3-0 win. Matty Fowler’s hard work set up Norbert Vincze for the opener, and Fowler then scored a stunning 45-yard volley to make it 2-0. Will Campbell rounded off the victory with a third, assisted by Luke Barratt on both the second and third goals.
Waggon & Horses thrashed Ellesmere Port U21 8-0. Harley Bennion bagged a hat- trick, with Aiden Field, Ellis Moore, and Daniel Randles also getting on the scoresheet. Elsewhere, Farndon FC secured a 3-1 victory over Cestrian Alex, with goals from Joel Nevitte, Will Yardley, and Alex Cleland. Mark Blake netted for Cestrian, but it was not enough to prevent Farndon from progressing.
Upton JFC 3rds cruised past Great Sutton Vets 5-1, with Tom Leaney grabbing a brace. Joel Hall, Sam Williams, and Wilson Burgess added to the score line, while Gaz Handley netted Sutton's lone goal.
In CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Two action, Birkenhead FC moved level on points with Great Float Vets after a 6-3 win over Chester Nomads Vets. Lee Gibson and James Atherton both bagged doubles, with Ricci Loughran and Michael New also scoring. Tom Cairns, Pete Tuma, and Si Andrews were on target for Nomads, but Birkenhead’s firepower proved too much.
