Birkenhead Vets laid down a marker in the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Two title race on Friday, moving four points clear at the summit following a 10-0 annihilation of West Kirby United Vets. Lee Gibson netted a hat-trick, supported by an Anthony Gardener brace. Terry Cotgrave, James Atherton, Adam Walker, Jamie Edwards, and Vinny O’Toole all added singles to complete the rout.
Saturday’s Queensferry Sports Premier Division action saw leaders Newton Athletic FC suffer their first setback of the campaign, falling 3-2 to Blacon Youth Reserves. Caleb Rose, Will Sandbach, and Joe Jones did the damage for Blacon, while Laim Bradley and Matt Robinson provided the replies for the pacesetters.
Whitegate United who sit in second place, trailing by nine points with a game in hand took advantage after a Sam Eves hat-trick secured a 3-2 win over Handbridge. Connor Williams and Ryan Bradley netted for the losing side.
The goals flowed elsewhere as Chester Nomads Thirds hit eight past Cestrian Alex in an 8-2 victory. James Lloyd, Tim Ashbrook, Cal Pepler, and Joe Ritson all bagged doubles, while Nial Peaker and Max Forshaw claimed consolations for Cestrian. Meanwhile, Upton JFC Reserves dispatched Hoole Rovers 7-3; Tom Wynne-Jones was the protagonist with a treble, supplemented by strikes from Max Oldfield, Joe Williams, and Jake Edwards.
In Vets Division One, Mersey Royal Vets reclaimed top spot with an emphatic 8-3 victory over Higher Bebington Kelma Vets. Chrissy Bowe was the standout performer with four goals, Mike Burke netted twice, and Will Bulpin and Danny Cowle also found the target.
In Division Three, Upton JFC Vets edged Frodsham Park JFC Vets 2-1 thanks to efforts from Dan Stevenson and Ben Whalley, with Adam Newbolt scoring for Frodsham.
Division Four saw West Kirby Vets move into second, six points off the lead, following a 2-0 win at Nags Head Bunbury Vets courtesy of Nick Pickering and Jack Foulkes. Dee Rangers Vets also triumphed on the road, beating Hoole Rangers Vets 2-1 as Dee McHugh and Jonny Callaghan cancelled out Adam Roper’s effort.
Finally, in Division Five, Hoole Rovers Vets climbed away from the foot of the table by beating Great Sutton Vets 2-1, with Joaquim Monteiro and James White on target against a Vic Charles reply.
Tarporley Vets ground out a 1-0 win over a hard-working Saughall Vets, thanks to a Gary Scouller goal, and Frodsham Park JFC Reserves saw off FC Vaults Vets 5-2, led by a William Beales double and strikes from Luke Hunter, Andrew Dutton, and an own goal.
