Here's the latest results from the Chester & Wirral Football League...
It’s been a goal-laden fortnight in the Chester & Wirral Football League, with promotion charges and high-scoring hauls dominating the leagues fixtures.
The action kicked off on Friday 13th March, as Birkenhead Vets bolstered their promotion bid with a 5-2 win over Eastham Vets. Mike New’s brace led the charge, supported by Ricci Loughran, Craig Griffiths, and Adam Walker, while Gaz Lupton provided Eastham’s replies. Over in the CWFL Championship, Frodsham Park saw off Poulton Vics 3-1, with James O’Connor netting twice and Lee Shepherd adding a third. Orlando Brennan hit the lone response for Vics.
The following Saturday saw the result of the weekend in the Olympic Trophies Championship. FC Farndon dismantled league leaders Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves 9-2 in a massive title statement. It was a family affair as Lee Parry bagged four, Calum Parry hit a double, and Ben Parry got on the scoresheet alongside Andrew Walker and Adam Morris. Tyler Abram and Shaun Burgess scored for Kelma, but the result leaves Farndon 15 points behind with six crucial games in hand.
In the Queensferry Sports Premier Division, Newton Athletic moved nine points clear at the summit after Liam Bradley’s strike secured a 1-0 win at Handbridge. Second-placed Whitegate United lost ground, falling 3-2 to Upton JFC Reserves, where Danny Evans’ brace and a Tom Wynne-Jones goal cancelled out efforts from Tom Carney and Tom Smith.
CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets action was equally frantic. In Division Three, Vineyard edged Frodsham Park Vets 2-1 thanks to James Maclennan and Stewy Speed, despite Gaz Gerrard’s reply. Upton JFC Vets enjoyed a more comfortable 5-1 win over Parkfield Vets, powered by a Dave Smith hat-trick and goals from Gary O’Reilly and Matthew Norton, with Sean Haley netting for Parkfield.
In Division Four, West Kirby Vets won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Crossway. Neil Davies, Ian Linwood, David Cowie, and Tom Raven did the damage, while David Megson (2) and Wes Roberts replied. Elsewhere, Dee Rangers took the points at Nags Head Vets with a 2-1-win courtesy of Charles Coates and Ryan Williams.
Division Five saw some astronomical scores. Cheshire Vikings Vets maintained their perfect record by demolishing FC Vaults 12-3. Stuart Hardman fired a hat-trick, while Jon Pomphrett, Shaun Anderson, Michael Shaw, and Michael Large all bagged braces, and James Wylde completed the rout. Tarporley Vets also found their shooting boots in a 6-2 win over Great Sutton Vets, with Chris Burson scoring twice alongside John Powell, Daniel Richard, Walter Yates, and Stephen Roberts. Port Sunlight kept the clean sheets coming, beating Saughall Colts Vets 5-0 via a Mark Reid double and goals from Joe Atkins, Mike McGee, and Matty Nayland.
Moving into the weekend of Friday 20th March, Birkenhead Vets hit the top of Division Two after a vital 3-1 win over former leaders Ellesmere Port Red Lions, with Kevin Oats, Ricci Loughran, and James Atherton on target.
On Saturday 21st March, FC Farndon continued their relentless pursuit of the Championship title. After their nine-goal haul the previous week, they put seven past Chester Nomads Fourths in a 7-2 win. Lee Parry was the star again with another four-timer, supported by Andrew Walker and David Mitchell. Richard Birtwistle and George Cartwright replied for Nomads. Meanwhile, Poulton Vics finally got off the mark, securing their first point in a 2-2 draw with Frodsham Park JFC thanks to Olly Smith and Jacob Reilly.
In the Premier Division, Upton JFC Reserves were in clinical form, beating Blacon Youth Reserves 6-1. Max Oldfield claimed a hat-trick, with Tom Wynne-Jones and Max Proctor adding gloss, while Kaine Feerick scored for Blacon. In Division Five’s lone fixture, Frodsham Park Vets dominated Hoole Wanderers Vets 5-1. William Beales (2), John Boote, Nathan Berry, and Carlo Sementa were the scorers, with James White responding for Hoole.
Finally, the Doug Johnson Shield provided a classic cup upset. Division Two side Hartford Vets knocked out top-flight Higher Bebington Kelma 5-3 to reach the semi-finals. Mike Jones’ brace and goals from Raj Tandon, Chris Crawford, and Craig Millington did the trick, despite replies from Lee Ralfe, Steve Foster, and Alex Ramsey.
