Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
The weekend’s fixtures took a battering as Storm Claudia decimated the schedule, with only one game surviving on Friday night. In the Queensferry Premier Division, Newton Athletic closed the gap on leaders Whitegate FC with a convincing 6-0 victory over Cestrian Alex. Doubles from Liam Bradley and Tom Royal, along with goals from Josh Scully and Rob Austin, completed the rout.
Elsewhere on Friday in the CWFL Olympic Trophies Division, Clarence and FC Farndon kicked off at the Bidston astro complex, but within ten minutes, it was clear the surface was unplayable as the heavy rain took its toll. The referee had no choice but to abandon the match.
Saturday’s Premier Division action was limited to just one fixture, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate between Upton JFC Reserves and Handbridge FC. Ryan Bradley led the way for Handbridge with a brace, only for Joe Williams and Josh Williams to hit back with a goal apiece for Upton.
Over in the Championship, the news was brighter as three games survived the weather. Leaders Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves returned to winning ways with a resounding 7-2 victory over Frodsham Park JFC. Wade Owens and Tyler Abram both claimed doubles, while Tom Jenko, Louie Westhead and Ethan Tellet also found the net. Frodsham replied through Jake Edwards and Ellis Campbell.
Elton secured a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Sutton Rangers Reserves thanks to goals from Adam Hall and Mark Richards. Meanwhile, matches involving M.U.C. United rarely lack entertainment, and their trip to Chester Nomads Fourths produced another goal-filled affair, ending in a 3-3 thriller. Adam Hagger grabbed his customary goal, with Ibrahim Hassan and Karzan Azizi also on target. Nomads responded through regular scorer Richard Birtwistle, who bagged a brace, while Kieran O’Hare added the other.
The only remaining fixture saw Sefton Vets continue their fine form in their first season in the CWFL Vets League, coming away from Higher Bebington Kelma Vets with an impressive 5-2 victory. David Parkinson led the way with a hat-trick, while Alex Bishop and Neil McQueen completed the scoring for Sefton. Kelma’s consolation goals came from Steve Forbes and Bryan Layfield.
