Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
Lache CFC were celebrating in style last Wednesday after lifting the CWFL Cayzer Shield with a gritty 1-0 victory over Upton JFC Thirds. Veteran striker and leading scorer Warren Kelly proved the difference, netting the decisive goal in a tightly contested encounter, but the celebrations did not stop there. Post-match, Lache were confirmed as CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship winners, capping a brilliant season with a well-earned double. In what's been one of the most competitive campaigns in recent years—with as many as five teams in the title hunt just months ago—Lache’s consistency proved pivotal.
On Saturday, Cheshire Vikings Vets delivered a dominant display to claim the CWFL Roodee Web Design Tom Gerraghty Trophy, sweeping aside Wirral Masters Vets with a resounding 4-0 win. Stuart Hardman led the charge with a brace, while Jake Dakin and Michael Large also found the net.
Mersey Royal Vets continued their pursuit of an incredible quadruple, securing back-to-back cup victories and clinching the Tarvin Precision Vets Division One title. Their winning streak stretched into last Wednesday, when they booked a spot in the CWFL Doug Johnson Cup final with a dominant 4-1 semi-final triumph over Higher Bebington Kelma Vets. Kris Hesketh opened the scoring with a thunderous 30-yard strike, followed by Stuey Jones, who powered in a header. Anthony Cotgrave took advantage of a defensive mistake to make it 3-0 before the break. Kelma did pull one back through Craig Cairns, but Danny Homes wrapped up the win late in the game.
The final, just days later, saw Royal edge Capenhurst Vets 2-1 in a much tighter contest than their recent Cheshire Cup final victory. Captain and centre-half Stuey Jones kept his scoring run going, bagging his third goal in as many matches, with Danny Edwards adding a second. Capenhurst’s Iain Forster’s goal gave them hope, but Royal stood firm to seal their second trophy of the season.
With confirmation of the league title also being won and the treble now secured, Royal now turn their attention to the P3plant Life Members Cup clash against Kelsall FC (CWFL Premier Division), as they aim for a historic fourth trophy.
The CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division title race is shaping up to be a thrilling finale, with Waggon & Horses moving to the top after back-to-back victories, overtaking Moreton in the process. A dominant 5-0 win on Saturday, highlighted by a brace from Harley Bennion and goals from Luke Jones, Billy Fennall, and Tom Harrison, has set the stage for a crucial encounter.
Waggon now face Moreton in a decisive clash at Bidston Astro this Friday (kick-off 19:30). A win is vital for Waggon if they’re to reclaim their title, with anything else seeing the title exchange hands to Moreton in what promises to be an exciting showdown.
Meanwhile, in Wednesday night action in the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, Waggon & Horses Reserves were involved in another thrilling 4-4 draw, their second such result in three games. Ellesmere Port Town U21s were the opponents this time, with Jacob Pirie scoring twice, and Dylan Smith and Mark Reid also finding the net. For Waggon, Aiden Field, Tom Harrison, Caleb Rose, and Jamie King all got on the scoresheet in a pulsating match.
Elsewhere on the same night in the Tarvin Precision Vets Division 5, Port Sunlight Vets triumphed 2-1 over Cheshire Vikings Vets. Matty Nayland and Mark Reid netted the crucial goals for Sunlight, while Jay Wylde scored for Vikings.
In Division 2, on Saturday, Parkfield Vets and Eastham Vets played out a 2-2 draw. Kevin Pink and Jay Foulkes scored for Parkfield, while Joe Crane and Kevin Walker replied for Eastham.
In Division 5, three games were played. Frodsham Vets secured a 2-1 win over Great Sutton Vets, with Kevin Valentine and Mark Earlam getting on the scoresheet for Frodsham. West Kirby Vets and Port Sunlight Vets shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, with Justin McDonald scoring for West Kirby, and Port Sunlight's goal coming from an unfortunate own goal. Meanwhile, Witton Albion Vets edged closer to the title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Crossway Vets.
