Moreton FC strengthened their grip on top spot in the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division with an emphatic 5-0 victory away at Christleton UDA on Wednesday night. Star striker Alfie Naylor bagged a hat-trick, while Danny Keogh and Ryan Slater also found the net. The win puts Moreton nine points clear of third-placed Waggon & Horses, although Waggon still have four games in hand. Kelsall remain in second, seven points adrift, but have completed all their fixtures.
On Friday night, Mersey Royal Vets continued their march towards silverware with a commanding 3-0 victory over Waggon & Horses in the CWFL P3plant Life Members Cup third round. Ian Sheridan broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark with a fine finish from the edge of the box,before Lee Davey doubled the advantage with a well-taken half-volley just before the break. Sheridan sealed the win early in the second half, rounding the keeper to net his second of the match. With the league title all but secured, a Cheshire Cup final confirmed, and both a semi-final (Doug Johnson vets cup) and quarter-final (P3plant Life Members Cup) still to play, a historic quadruple remains firmly within reach for Royal.
On Saturday in the same competition, Higher Bebington Kelma Vets once again proved their worth against open age opposition, seeing off Christleton UDA in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Jonny Sumner had given Kelma the lead before Yaya Kamara levelled for Christleton. The tie was settled from the spot, with outfield player Shaun Burgess stepping up heroically to make two crucial saves as Kelma triumphed 4-1.
Chester Nomads Thirds secured an impressive 5-2 away win over Cestrian Alex, with Tim Ashbrook leading the charge with a brace. Jordan Davies and Brandon Dickinson also got on the scoresheet. Kelsall’s Dom Coates was the difference-maker in their 2-0 victory against Handbridge, netting both goals to progress. Cheshire Vikings Vets extended their strong run of form with a dominant 5-0 win over Chester Nomads Fourths. Stuart Hardman stole the show with four goals, while Luke Ivory added the finishing touch to a resounding victory. Elsewhere, Upton JFC proved too strong for their senior opponents Parkfield Rangers Vets, romping to a 9-0 win.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 3, Hartford Vets took a major step towards the title with a comprehensive 6-1 thrashing of nearest challengers Tarvin Vets. Dan Bowen led the scoring with a brace, while Mike Jones, Jordan Oldham, Tom Yarwood, and Luke Wilkinson all chipped in.
Upton JFC Vets continue to set the pace at the top of Division 4, as goals from Matt Norton and David Smith secured a 2-0 win over Nags Head Bunbury Vets. Hot on their heels, Frodsham Vets kept up the pressure, dispatching FC Vaults 4-2 with Ant Ollier bagging a brace and further goals coming from Ben Sherlock and Joe Morphet. Wirral Masters, currently third, saw off Hoole Rangers Vets 4-1 thanks to goals from Luke Brennan, Danny Payne, Mike Richardson, and Axel Ekano Nkodo.
Division 5 action seen Witton Albion Vets remain top of the table, but only on goal difference. A 4-2 victory over Hoole Wanderers Vets was secured with a brace from Oliver James and strikes from Dave Shore and Kev Douglas. Hoole Wanderers responded through John Darkwah and Nodz Noden, but it wasn’t enough to stop Albion from taking all three points.
