Moreton extended their lead at the top of the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division with a dominant 7-0 rout over bottom-placed Chester Nomads 3rds. Morgan Catterson led the charge with a hat-trick, while Alfie Naylor netted a brace. Jay Hanson and Ryan Slater also got on the scoresheet to secure a comprehensive win for John White’s side.
In the Doug Johnson Cup first-round clash, Hooton Vets and Queens Vets faced off for the third time this season in another closely fought contest. Steve Abbot and Anton Jolley gave Queens an early lead, but Hooton responded with goals from Steve Forbes and Ritchie Feightman to level the score at 2-2 before half-time. Forbes put Hooton ahead early in the second half, only for Nick Scholes to strike a brilliantly placed 30-yard effort into the bottom corner to make it 3-3. The game remained finely balanced until Jolley fired in his second and a fourth for Queens. As Hooton pushed for an equaliser, Queens capitalised on the counter, adding three more through Steve Baguley and a double from Abbot to complete his hat-trick and seal a 7-3 win.
Saturday’s League Action in the Queensferry Premier Division, Kelsall suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Christleton UDA. Keiran Price found the net for Kelsall, but Sam Tenwalde secured the win for Christleton with a brace. Meanwhile, Upton JFC Reserves edged past Hoole Rangers 1-0, courtesy of a solitary Joe Williams goal. Moreton now sit on 30 points, holding a five-point lead over Kelsall in second, although they have played three games more. Upton are third with 25 points, having played a game more than Moreton. The real title threat, however, comes from reigning champions Waggon & Horses, who sit fourth on 24 points with three games in hand. Winning those games could see them leapfrog Moreton at the top.
CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 3 action now as Hartford Vets returned to winning ways with a thrilling 7-5 victory over closest rivals Eastham Vets. Eastham’s Joe Crane netted a hat-trick, with Gaz Lupton and Dan Nettleton also on target, but Hartford’s Rob Amies stole the show with five goals. Dan Bowen added a brace to secure a crucial win that strengthens Hartford’s position at the top. Elsewhere, FC Farndon Vets claimed a 5-2 victory over Parkfield Vets. Roy Cardius led the charge with a hat-trick, while Mark Done and Kieran Tudor also found the net. Parkfield’s goals came from Dave Woods.
Division 4 Round-Up Upton JFC Vets moved to the summit after a 4-1 victory over Dee Rangers Vets. A Dave Roberts hat-trick, along with a strike from Dave Smith, secured the points, while Russ Morgan netted Dee Rangers’ consolation goal. Frodsham Vets, despite a Rob Davies hat-trick, suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to Nags Head Bunbury who had Henry Buckley and Alex Morrisroe on target, both netting 2 each.
Hoole Rangers Vets, meanwhile, celebrated their first league win of the season with a 3-0 triumph over FC Vaults, thanks to a double from Ash English and a goal from Alec Hutchinson.
In Division 5 Cheshire Vikings Vets ran out 4-1 winners against Crossway Vets, with Stuart Hardmen scoring twice, supported by goals from Michael Large and Luke Ivory. Kev Leech grabbed Crossway’s only goal.
Witton Albion Vets produced an emphatic 8-1 victory over Frodsham Vets Reserves. Oliver James netted a hat-trick, Jay McQueen bagged a brace, and further goals came from Mike Butters, Chris Latham, and Scott Fullwood. Kev Valentine scored Frodsham’s consolation goal. This dominant win puts Witton top on goal difference, with Poulton Athletic Vets also in contention now sit level on points at the top after a 2-0 victory, courtesy of strikes from Steven Barnes and Francis Tolman,The Division 5 title race remains wide open, with five teams still in the hunt for the top spot as the season progresses.
