CWFL Life Members Cup Last 16:
A Man of the match performance from Graeham Davidson inspired Division 2 outfit Ellesmere Port Red Lions vets to a superb 5-2 victory against Lache Vets from Division 1. Davidson smashed in four goals and Dave Fenwick also netted to secure Red Lions passage into the quarter finals.
Sutton Rangers recent good form continued as they dumped out Shaftsbury Youth. Sutton had Nathan Stephenson in fine form as he bagged himself a hat-trick and Alex Morgan grabbed a single, but Shafts struck back to net four goals of their own, Mike Williams netted a brace to go along with singles from Declan Iverson and Alfie Naylor to send the game to penalties which Sutton won 5-4.
Birkenhead vets who dumped out Waggon & Horses Reserves in the previous round came unstuck against Premier Division side Hoole Rangers. David Forde bagged a double and Corey Beavon, Colin Campbell, Josh Hopley, and Josh Leach all got singles as the game finished 6-1 in Hoole’s favour.
Vets Cheshire Cup Semi-final:
Big game of the day was in the semi-final of the vets Cheshire cup between Higher Bebington Kelma vets and Mersey Royal vets. A Shaun Burgess penalty in the early stages of the game gave Kelma a deserved lead but Royal gradually forced their way back into the game and took the lead with efforts from Andy Robinson and Danny Edwards. Robinson’s goal came from an overhead kick before Stuart Hardman crossed for Edwards to slot from close range and put Royal 2-1 ahead at half time. The second half seen both teams battling to net the all-important next goal which went Royals way when Robinson finished smartly from the edge of the box before completing his hat-trick with a brilliant effort to send Royal into the final were they will meet either Parkfield vets or Hooton vets.
CWFL Tarvin Precision vets Division 2:
Neston Nomads vets increased their lead at the top of Division 2 as they made light work of Winsford vets, winning 9-1. Andy Lewis netted a treble, Sam Bunbury a double and Paul Ellison, Mike Ryan, Ian Cross, and Jim Thompson all got singles.
