Chester & District Cup 2^nd Round

In the Chester & District Cup 2^nd round a solitary strike from Dom Coates was enough for Kelsall FC to secure a superb win against Christleton FC. similarly, an Ashley Reed goal proved decisive as Cestrian Alex triumphed over Blacon Youth.

Handbridge FC, had Andrew Pratt and Kyle Williams on target but conceded three to Newton Athletic FC as the game ended 3-2.  Ryan McCleary was the hero for Waggon & Horses Reserves as he notched a double to see off Upton JFC who replied with a goal from Cae McGovern. Despite goals from Josh Leach and Liam Edwards, Hoole Rangers went crashing out, 6-2 against Chester Nomads first team.

FC Farndon emerged victorious against Hoole Rovers with goals from Matty Sheridan, Lee Parry and Ben Parry in a five-goal thriller whilst Waggon & Horses first team dominated with a nine-goal spree against Chester Nomads third team, Robbie Davies, and James Lloyd both bagged hat-tricks.  Ben Barrat and Joe Houghton both netted singles as well as an own goal.

Tom Gerraghty Vets Cup 1^st Round

FC Vaults Vets had Kieth Roberts and Ky Mearns on the scoresheet overcoming Port Sunlight Vets who replied with a goal from Matt Nayland. In a closely contested match, 90 minutes could not separate Poulton Athletic Vets and Hartford Vets as the game ended 2-2 but Hartford held their nerve winning 5-4 on penalties.

Great Sutton Vets emerged victorious over Hoole Vets, with Kenneth McConnick scoring twice and Gary Handley adding another whilst Andy Johnson found the net for Hoole Vets. Wirral Masters Vets had Alec Higginson on fine form as he netted a treble with Lee Doyle and Steve Wilson contributing with individual goals as they overcome Frodsham Vets 5-1.  

Oliver James hit a double and Steve Wilson a single to see Witton Albion Vets into the hat for the next round as they beat Frodsham Vets Reserves 3-1, Ant Ollier got Frodsham’s consolation goal. Cheshire Vikings Vets also progressed into the next round thanks to efforts from Michael Large and Paul Kane in their 2-1 victory over Crossway Vets who’s goal via a strike from Wes Roberts.

Vets Cheshire Cup

In the concluding match of the second round Vets Cheshire Cup Parkfield Vets and Eastham Vets engaged in an exhilarating 3-3 draw. Kevin Pink, Jimmy Breheny and Danny McDowell all found the back of the next for Parkfield, but their efforts were matched by goals from Dan Nettleton, Dave Sadler, and Matty Gill of Eastham Vets. The suspense continued into the penalty shootout, where Parkfield secured a 2-1 victory, propelling them into the quarter finals.

Cup Kings Higher Bebington Kalma Vets progressed into the semi-finals with a hard-fought win against Lache Vets. Mark Jones gave Kalma a first half lead when he headed home and in a closely contested second half both teams went all out for the win, but it was Jones who extended Kalma’s advantage by notching a second goal when he rounded the keeper before slotting. Shaun Burgess hit a sweet shot from 25 yards out to make it 3-0 before Tom Rowlands gave Lache hope when his effort took a deflection only for Mark Jones to seal the win and the also complete a perfect hat-trick netting a left footed strike to compliment his header and right footed effort.

The semi final line up now consists of Mersey Royal Vets, Hooton Vets, Higher Bebington Kalma Vets and one of Parkfield Vets or Hoole Vets who will play their quarter final this Saturday.

Northern Cup

Bad news for CWFL team this week in the Northern Cup as Capenhurst Villa Vets crashed to a 3-1 defeat against Middlewich Town Reserves on the scoresheet for Cape was Cam Forster, whilst Neston Nomads Vets also went out losing 2-1 against Wigan Rovers, Paul Ellison netting for Neston. Great efforts from both Vets sides as they battled against younger open age side.
