The Police and Crime Commissioner, Youth Fed, Institute of Advanced Motorists and other emergency services will be hosting a free event to help 18-29 year olds develop their driving skills and confidence.
Funded by the Commissioner, attendees will take part in interactive sessions with Cheshire Constabulary, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service (CFRS) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). They will also benefit from practical driving sessions led by IAM RoadSmart.
Statistics from CFRS show that in 2021, 26% of incidents on Cheshire’s roads that led to death or serious injury involved young people aged 17-25. The aim of the event is to put the fun into driving for young people by boosting their driving skills and confidence.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said:
“Making Cheshire’s roads safer is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan, and it is great to be working with the key organisations who share this commitment. The young driver’s will have years of travelling ahead of them, so it is important we build on their confidence at this early stage and provide them with skills they can carry forward.
“This is a great opportunity to learn above and beyond what is offered on standard driving lessons, and I’d like to encourage Cheshire’s young people to sign up.”
There will be four sessions throughout the day:
Think – led by Cheshire Fire & Rescue
Drive – led by Cheshire Constabulary
Survive – led by North West Ambulance Service
Practical – led by IAM RoadSmart

“This event is for one thing and one thing only, to prevent deaths on the roads. I would like to thank John Dwyer for getting Youth Fed involved in this critical piece of work because as a young people’s charity we believe we can educate and encourage young people to reflect on their own driving and to reappraise the consequences of what they currently perceive to be safe.”
