Cheshire’s Christleton village, which earlier this year was named one of the ‘Best Places to Live’ in the UK, is gearing up to host its Annual Summer Fête.
Held nearly every year since 1875, the community celebration raises thousands to channel back into local groups and good causes.
For 2024, the Christleton Village Fête will be held on Saturday 29th June on the playing field of Christleton Primary School. Each year between 700 and 1,000 visitors attend to enjoy a schedule of events steeped in tradition, with shows and stalls for the whole family.
Chair of the Christleton Village Fête Committee, Dawn Sturgess said:
"As ever we will kick off the fête with a parade through the village led by the Wirral Pipe Band and including the newly-crowned Rose Queen, retinue, and children from the Christleton Pre-school, who have been working hard to create their fancy dress outfits. The theme this year is ‘All Things Paris’, so visitors can expect some French flair to our traditional celebrations.
All proceeds from the Christleton Village Fête are channelled back into the community to support local groups, with more than £3,500 raised each year to support activities such as the playgroup, sports’ groups, Christleton’s primary and high schools, Christmas dinner for older residents, and the local Brownies, Cubs and Scouts.
Dawn added:
“After not being able to run the event during the pandemic it still feels a treat to organise it again. Fingers crossed we’re blessed with the sunshine of 2023, for a fun-filled day of festivities where our village and local community come together. And the perfect warm-up for next year; the ‘big one’ for us as we celebrate 150 years of the Christleton Village Fête.”
The parade will lead visitors to the entrance of the fête on Quarry Lane, which will open at 1.30pm. Admission is £5 for a family, £2 an adult, £1 for children/OAPs and under-fives are free. No dogs, except assistance dogs, are permitted.
More than 25 stalls and sideshows are exhibited around a central arena and main stage; in which there will be performances and demonstrations, including live bands. Stalls will offer jewellery, crafts, produce, a prosecco tent, raffle, ice cream, burger bar, and the popular ‘Plate Smash’!
The Christleton Village Fête will be held on Saturday 29th June on the playing field of Christleton Primary School, with the parade launching the event from outside Christleton High School at 1pm.
Christleton was named in The Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Live’ list for 2024.
